De zuidelijke grens is de Ringvaart om het gebied Watergraafsmeer. De bouw van de oostelijke stadsuitbreidingen begon in het laatste kwart van de negentiende eeuw, met de bouw van de Oosterparkbuurt en de Dapperbuurt.
